Building a library

I love Children's books!  Anytime I go to a bookstore, I have to make a stop in the children's section and find some of my favorites. I realize that we need to start building our children collection here at the house. Here are of tthe books on our list:

This was one of Brian's picks.  He had the whole collection growing up.

Reading this book growing up, I remember feeling sorry for the toys at the store that were broken. :(

I must admit this is a new favorite for me.  I never really liked it growing up, but it has become a favorite when reading it with the neices and nephews!

I don't really remember much about this book, I just remebmer I loved it!

Homemade laundry detergent

So we have been trying to fnd ways to save a little here and there for preparation for Baby Plumb. I found a recipe online for homemade laundry detergent and have been meaning to make it for awhile. I finally tracked down all the ingredients!

What you need:
1 quart Water (boiling)
2 cups Bar soap (grated)
2 cups Borax
2 cups Washing Soda (this is the ingredient that was a little difficult to find but I finally found it at Homeland)

First you finely grate the bar soup.

Add the grated soap to the boiling water and stir until soap is melted. You can keep on low heat until soap is melted.

Pour the soap water into a large, clean pail and add the Borax and Washing Soda. Stir well until all is dissolved.

Add 2 gallons of water, stir until well mixed.

Cover pail and use 1/4 cup for each load of laundry. Stir the soap each time you use it (will gel). Mine did not actually gel, it was more soupy. Oh well!

Time to try a load!

  I made about 3 gallons, using 1/4 cup for one load, for about $3.50! WOW!

30 posts in 30 days?!?!? Am I crazy?!?!

What a wonderful relaxing weekend we have had!  We just got back from the annual Oakcrest Family Retreat and had such a wonderful time! The weather was perfect and the tree's were beautiful!  My friend Kelly suggested that we all just move to a compound and stay there forever!  I actually think I could do that!  We have been so blessed by such a wonderful church family!  God is good!  Next year, hopefully our family will have one more member to tag along! :)

So I saw this challenge on the Bottomly's blog , and thought I would try it myself!  Am I really ready for this kind of commitment? We will see!:) 

   BYW the Bottomly's are a couple from Oklahoma that have also adopted from Ethiopia and wrote a book about their experience.

 


The book was such an important part of our adoption journey when we were just beginning to pray about adoption! I would strongly suggest that anyone thinking about adoption, internationally or domestic, or know anyone adopting from Ethiopia should read this book!  (I've read it myself three times!:))

Kind of a rambling thoughts kinda post! Maybe it is this time change!:)

Baby stuff!

We have felt so blessed that so many people in our life are so excited for us during this adoption process and have already started the spoiling process!  Their support, prayers, and love has been amazing!  We feel so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends!

My mom and dad bought baby Plumb this cute lamb sound machine! (The first of many gifts!  They can't wait to spoil their first grandchild!)

My dad also picked up this gear.  Isn't it the cutest little jacket!?!

The Brayant's are making such we start him out a Sooner early! On the back it says "ROOKIE" for the name and "1/2" for the number!  Too cute!

This is from Brian's sister and brother-in-law.  This is a book about adoption that they recieved the night before they met their girls!  It is so wonderful to have someone so close who had been through adoption!

Sometimes I get all these things out and just imagine that one day soon we will actually be using them!

A weekend full of fun and thinking

What a great weekend at Burnt cabin this weekend with the youth group!  Bunt cabin is my favorite retreat spot!  What a great time to get away from the craziness of life and refocus!  And I seriously love hanging out with these people!  (I must admit I am a little sore from the Gladitor games this morning.  Just a nice reminder that I am getting older!:))

So since we are now on the waiting list, it has really hit me how close we are.  This weeked I had a lot of time to really think about the fact that across the globe, there is a precious woman carriyng our son right now!  I have been thinking about what she must be feeling.  Does she know that she is pregnant?  Is she scared?  Is she hungry?  Does she have anyone? Does she know how much a family in America thinks of her? Does she know Christ?  Please pray with us that God give her food, shelter, strength, peace, comfort, and the knowledge of God's grace and love.
